Horse Sculpture – Part 1

Just last week the Selangor Turf Club held an event where colleges were to design & illustrate a black coloured carbon fiber horse.. or a few horses, depending how many groups are there from any college. Well, UCSI only had one team, our team.

A total of a week was given to us to finish up the work on the horse. We went there blindly, we didn’t know the horse was of one to one scale, we didn’t know the horse was black and we certainly didn’t know what we was supposed to do. Dilemma. So we did a little brain storming and came up with some ideas while some other teams had already started drawing and even painting the horse.

See what i mean? Both of the above are of InHouse College on the FIRST day. So ultimately we concluded that, we would lose horribly if we were to paint our horse since we are not painters and aren’t taking up fine art. But we have two secret weapons in our group, which was Atousa and Zuliyana, both diploma holders of fine art. The team also consists of the not-so-fine-in-fine-art-people too which was.. Joe, Lawrence, Kah Sing Mugen, Jayz, Kin Yew and ultimately me.

Results from this conclusion was we used materiality to show off the speed and strength of the horse rather than just through painting. We used smashed pieces of glass, plaster of paris and zinc strips on a base layer of gold paint before painting some images on it.

The week on was abit hectic, changing plans were part of the routine and packed food for almost the whole 7 to 8 days.

You know, actually i have to admit.. it does look like a gate, doesn’t it? lol.. the prize money were very attractive, RM8000 for the champion, RM5000 for the first runner up and RM3000 for the second runner up. Do you wanna know the results? Stay tuned! I’m evil like that.
